Built by a Spring Arbor mom who needed a sitter.
Village Sitters started the way most good local things do: with a problem at the kitchen table. Finding a babysitter in Spring Arbor meant choosing between national websites full of strangers, or firing a message into a group chat and hoping.
Our founder, Christie, sits in the middle of two communities that needed each other — local families who want sitters they can genuinely trust, and Spring Arbor University students who want flexible, fair-paying work from families who treat them well. Village Sitters is the bridge: a private, verified, personally moderated network that serves both sides and takes advantage of neither.
What we will not compromise on
Safety before scale
Every sitter is university-verified and personally approved. We would rather grow slowly than approve quickly. There is no growth target that justifies a stranger in your living room.
Local, always
One town, one campus, one community. We are not trying to be everywhere — we are trying to be excellent in Spring Arbor. Depth of trust beats breadth of market.
Fair to sitters
Rates posted up front, zero commission, and families who are invested members rather than anonymous accounts. Students are the heart of this network, not its inventory.
Why “Village”
Because the saying is true — it does take a village. For generations, finding a sitter meant asking the neighbor’s responsible teenager, a name passed from family to family. The internet broke that chain and replaced it with search results. We are rebuilding it with the same ingredients — personal vouching, local ties, mutual respect — and a claim button.
